WES evaluation

The Ultimate WES Guide

Are you looking at the USA or Canada as your chosen destination?

Every country has its own educational system. Thus, before applying for international universities or job opportunities, it’s important to find out where your qualifications stand in relevance.

If you’re interested in the US or Canada, knowing about WES is a significant step for you. This article will be your one-stop guide to everything you need to know about WES evaluation and how to go about it.

What is WES?

World Education Services (WES) is a private organisation recognised by most universities and employers across the globe.

They take your documents, verify its originality and then decide how it fares in comparison to the US educational system, based on the following parameters:

  • Scores
  • No of years (of formal education)
  • Duration (of studies)
  • University/College/School Ranking

After dissecting each year, each course and score in minute detail – they assess your educational credentials and create an official report of the same.

Why WES?

Being one of the oldest non-profit educational evaluation org in the world, it’s assessment is trusted by most US/Canadian universities and employers.

But apart from helping potential employers or educational institutes gauge you, WES evaluation can help YOU the most.

How can WES help you?

Applying blindly to colleges and universities will only cause you to spend thousands of rupees on admission fees. If you are aware of what your GPA is and your educational standing baggage (history of where what and when you studied), you can make an informed decision and apply only to those places where there is a maximum chance of acceptance.

You first need to check if the college you are applying for requires a WES evaluation and of which type.

Types of WES evaluation

Depending upon the universities or your need,  you can choose the evaluation package that most suits your need.

There are two types of evaluations:

  • Course by Course
  • Document by Document

Let’s solve the mystery behind the WES evaluation process

Are you looking at the USA or Canada as your chosen destination?

We spoke about how to apply for WES evaluation but what happens behind the scenes once they receive your application?

          • Firstly, an agent is assigned to your case, who will evaluate your application and the documents sent. Once the agent finds all your documents to be in order, they push it for the next steps.
          • A report is made keeping in mind how it can fare against Canadian standards on the basis of the following parameters:
          1. What is the admission requirement of the institute you are applying for?
          2. What is your highest qualification?
          3. What type of institute have you studied from?
          4. What is the course objective?
          5. How does the institute’s course material compare with their Canadian counterparts?
          6. What is the result of the grades when converted to Canadian standards?
          • The report is then reviewed by a senior evaluator.
          • If everything is approved and in accordance with their guidelines, the complete evaluation report is sent to the applicant and/or the institute as per the application request.

The timeframe for this process is around 7 days from receiving the complete application with fees.

There is an option available in ‘My account’ on the WES website where you can trace the status of your application.

If any document is missing or incomplete, the same will be updated on the website.

          Important things to remember

          • You DO NOT have to send original documents but verified xerox copies only.
          • Cross verify with your college/university by speaking to the admissions officer, if any doubt on the type of WES evaluation required.
          • WES takes between 7-10 days for evaluation once all the documents and fees are paid. They also have the same day or 3-day fast track option for an extra fee.
          • If the documents are in any other language apart from English, you need to send documents in the original language and one with a word by word translation. If translators are not available by your college, WES can also provide recommendations.
          • For any errors while submitting the application or after, contact WES.
          • While WES is extremely prominent in the USA, many institutes in Canada need WES only for its local students who have studied outside Canada. It’s very important to confirm you college admission requirement before you proceed.

While WES may seem complicated, it really is just a way for universities and colleges to interpret your scores in a way they can understand, thus ensuring they make the right decisions while dealing with admission.
